Visiting

There are no restrictions on visiting times except on the express instructions of patients themselves. Children are warmly welcomed but must be supervised at all times.

Following feedback from patients, visiting during mealtimes is discouraged. This allows patients who require assistance with meals privacy and dignity. However, should a family member or carer wish to assist the patient with the meal instead of a member of staff, they are welcome to do so.

Visiting St. Margaret of Scotland Hospice

Visitors are requested to make their visits after 3.00pm to respect patients' needs for rest and quiet times. Under normal circumstances, visitors are requested to leave by 8.00pm, unless patients are poorly. Should these suggestions be impractical, please discuss the situation with nursing staff who will do thier best to accomodate particular needs. As patients become easily fatigued, we would ask that there is a maximum of two visitors at each patient's bedside at one time. There are a number of areas within the ward for visitors to wait in comfort while visiting patients.

To ensure the smooth running of the Hospice and the safe provision of care, visitors are asked to respect the following:

  • Please do not interrupt nurses during the medicine round. Speak to other available members of staff on the Ward
  • For reasons of security and safety, all visitors are required to sign in and out at the Main Desk on entering and leaving the building
  • There is a No Smoking policy within the Hospice and Hospice Grounds
