A short Story from a Young Volunteer... |
My name is Martin McNab, I am 15 years
old and I am a pupil at Hyndland Secondary School. I
have been volunteering at St. Margaret of Scotland
Hospice for nearly 2 years.
The first time I volunteered at the Hospice was on
the Christmas Bus and it was great fun. The bus was
decorated with lights and a nativity scene and Christmas
carols were ringing out from the loudspeaker. Every
night we arrived at different venues - one night you
could be at a housing estate in Milngavie, the next
night you could be at one of the largest companies
in Dumbarton. |
|
The best part of being on the Christmas
Bus is dressing up in all the different costumes. One
night you can be dressed up as Rudolph the Red-Nosed
Reindeer, the next you could be Santa or a Snowman
- it's amazing! Everyone comes out of their houses
and waves to you, putting money into the buckets and
wishing everyone a 'Merry Christmas'. It just gives
you a nice feeling to know that you are helping the
Hospice.
I also help out in the Education Centre at the Hospice.
I had signed up to take part in the DUke of Edinburgh
Award at my school and I chose the Hospice for my voluntary
work, which included mailing letters and working on
the computers, which was also great fun. I have been
helping the Hospice in any way I can - helping at the
Garden Fete and other events. I am looking forward
to the Christmas Fete. Everyone at the Hospice makes
you feel so welcome, I would recommend anyone to volunteer
at the Hospice - especially on the Christmas Bus! |
